The type of paint you choose is important

The type of paint you choose for your home improvement project is very important.  Yes, it is important as much as your choice of color.  There are a lot of paint manufactures out there, some names are well known and some are regional.  In this article we will not name each paint manufacture, but instead focus on the differences between higher end paint and general standard paint.  To begin with, many professional painters prefer to use a single paint manufacture for most if not all their jobs.  The reasoning for this is that the painter will be more familiar with the product performance.  Most DIYs or homeowners may not be willing to pay the extra cost to purchase a higher end paint.  There may be many reasons for this decision.  It may be a financial decision or they are not well versed in paint differences.  At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

A higher end quality paint will have qualities that your general standard paint will not.  The quality paint will have better coverage, more binding ability,  less pigment loss and fading, and a superior ultraviolet (UV) protection for longer lasting paint job and protect from fading.

The general standard paint will not have the same coverage abilities, more fillers, less binding qualities, and in most cases more pigment loss.  Resulting in premature fading, as a result of the inferior UV protection.

Depending on where and what you are painting, you also have to consider the right sheen.  For exterior paint projects, satin or semi-gloss are most preferred.  For interior paint projects, you will have many more choices.  When you hire a paint contractor, you will be provided with the options.  These sheens will include: Flat, Eggshell, Satin, Semi-gloss and High-gloss.  Different paint manufactures will have a slightly different sheen and name for their product's.  With a higher gloss, you will get better durability and easier cleanup.

Exterior colors fade

 Do some exterior colors fade more quickly?
